It’s the most time that is happiest of the season, right? Christmas are great for catching up with friends and unless you actually cannot anymore. As being a school that is high you should also get ready for the barrage of concerns you’ll likely face about your future college plans. Do not let these concerns catch you by surprise. Continue reading to find the types out of concerns friends and families love to ask over the breaks.
1. Exactly How are those college applications coming along? Are you currently all done?
Hopefully, your response is a yes that are relieved! I constantly recommend that students finish their apps before the holidays to ensure that they can in fact enjoy their break. But don’t worry if you should be not done as of this time. The main thing is that you turn them in before the due date.
2. Just What colleges are you currently applying to? Exactly why aren’t you deciding on xyz college?
School pride is a thing that is great but don’t ever let somebody force you into deciding on a college just because they went there (also Uncle Tim). Colleges are available all sizes and locations, and one size absolutely does maybe not fit all. Research your facts, and stick to a list which makes feeling for you.
3. What are you going to learn?
The answer that is short that you do not know yet. Even in the event that you’ve been admitted currently the odds are fairly likely that you shall alter your mind, maybe even before starting college. Such as the past question, friends and relatives love to weigh in when it comes down to what you should do with your life. While advice may be great, be sure to discover the fit that is best for you.
4. What exactly are you going doing with that degree?
Keeping with all the theme that relatives and buddies always thinking they know best, you should never allow someone make you feel bad about what you need to pursue. Do not get me incorrect, it’s important to truly have a have plan and set goals, but you will probably be more productive you actually enjoy if you pursue something.
5. Did you hear so and so got in early to…?
This is 2015. With social media, every person typically knows each other’s college decisions minutes after their peers are notified. Never let college choices get under your skin layer or cause a riff between your buddies. Classmates will inevitably boast or gloat, but don’t allow it cause you to lose your cool.
Mythbuster: I’m enthusiastic about Business, but I’m applying as Undecided because that will give me a better shot at Admission
The Myth: It is easier to get in as undecided than a significant in a professional school.
The Verdict: Not at USC.
Of all of the myths we’ll talk about this 12 months, I’m pretty sure this is the one I face the most as an admission professional. I’ve lost count of just how many students come up to me after an event or school that is high and say something like, ‘The opportunities in the Marshall School of Business are perfect. We want to learn business at USC, but I’m thinking of applying as undecided since Marshall is super competitive.’
Yes, Marshall is competitive. So can be engineering, communication, music, undecided, and every major at USC. The overall admission procedure is highly selective, and students won’t be at a benefit if they apply undecided. In fact, it is in a student’s best interest to apply with their major of choice if they know what they would like to study in college. Pupils at USC get going in their major right away and have the ability to make the most of their system’s resources in their very first semester on campus.
The USC Writing Supplement on the Common Application allows students to list a first and second choice major. Students is always considered for their top choice first, and if a student is not found a fit for that major, they will be looked at for their second option major as well as undecided. We evaluate a student’s complement all appropriate options when applications that are reviewing.
Some majors do like to see preparation and fit for major. As an example, students signing up to business must have four years of strong high college math. Engineering and science applicants must have four years of strong science and math. This doesn’t make admission to these majors any harder or easier for a student that is particular it just ensures that we hotel royal las vegas are looking for additional techniques a student are a fit for their used major. The six visual and performing art schools are looking music artists who are ready and eager to expand their existing talents. The amount of applicants of these art programs combined with the review that is subjective may make admission to the art programs competitive, but it wouldn’t be any easier for a student to get into an art program at a later time if they originally were admitted to USC as another major.
I think the good reason why this discussion even takes place is because students really would like to get into USC and will do whatever it takes to increase their chances. My advice is to the major that interests you. It’s going to permit you to respond to passion and excitement to our questions, which can only help us determine your complement your major and for USC.
